Huge Playoff Win For Middle School Squad
They say its not how you start but how you finish. Last nights playoff game against a tough Syosset team was a perfect example of this. Roughly thirty seconds into the first shift of the game, RVC would give up a goal and many in the stands must have thought they were in for a long night. Although sloppy at times in our own zone, goaltender Matthew Prezioso would make many key saves to keep Syosset off the board again.
RVC would get there share of chances as Ethan Epstein, Massi Giammarino and Sean Johnson would all get point blank shots steered aside by the Syosset goaltender. Finally mid way thru the second half, Andrew Morizio would make an amazing dish over to John Coletti who banged home the tying goal.
The game would remain tied 1-1 after regulation and headed to a shootout. The first shooter would beat Prezioso and put them up 1-0. Giammarino would make a nifty deke to his back hand and knot the shootout 1-1. Prezioso would not be beat this next round, making a great save and giving RVC the chance to take the lead. Cooper Goldspiel would shoot next and actually was facing his Arrows travel goalie, some inside info may have helped him as he ripped a beautiful shot over the blocker to give RVC the 2-1 lead. A save in the final round would give RVC the win so it came down once again to Prezioso who would make arguably his best save of the night on the last shot of the shootout. It looked as though beat to his right, Prez would make a diving save, deflecting the puck wide and sending RVC to the semi finals.
RVC will face a tough Plainview team next Monday, having tied and lost to them during the season. Matty Prezioso was named the games MVP after a phenomenal effort!
